(Romantic) Pop Song

As I was writing my song, I was thinking about a nostalgic time in my past. I was reliving my life in my head. I was expressing my feelings about some time that I had a strong connection with. I remember when I went to Disneyland for the very first time. Disneyland has gotten so expensive that I haven’t been in a really long time.

My process was describing the scenery and jotting anything down that I remembered from the time. I just had a list of notes and words I wanted to use then I got help from real songs for a template. I referenced a Taylor Swift song to get an idea of how to format the lyrics. I had to think about Romanticism as well which made the song even more tough.

Writing the song was extremely hard and time consuming. I have a lot of respect for lyricist who are able to create whole songs with a definitive meaning. I was only able to create a song that was short and sweet. I wanted the song to tell a story abstractly while still expressing Romantic ideals.

I think my song was okay. I definitely don’t think it was a good song. Songs today are catchy and have good rhythm. It was difficult to recreate that or even attempt to do it. I was able to create two verses and the chorus, so I am proud of that.

No, I don’t think I will write a song again. The assignment was not very enjoyable to me. I had to keep the song on topic and make it sound respectable which was a difficult task to do. Unlike drawing a picture, this was the first time I have ever attempted to create a song.

If I had to write another song, I would make it a love song about my girlfriend. There are a lot of love songs out there, so I would have a lot of references to use. I think writing about a person is easier than writing about a time or place.
