Destiny Randall is an undergraduate student in her last semester. She is a part of the Studio/Fiber CSULB School of Art program. Her major is Fiber 3D Media. Her interest is exploring fiber lens depriving the audience with the sensor of visual artist. Her ideas focus on social perceptions of reality. She wanted to show the behind the scenes process of modeling and photography. The whole project tackles the idea of social media, the good and the bad.
The art piece I chose was a photo labeled as Influencer Shoot Six. The image was 18 inches by 24 inches so it was on the larger side. The photo had lines which were the frame. The photo contains a lot of various shapes. The colors are vibrant and distinctive that are filled with a variety of vivid primary colors. The photo contains texture which was one of the focuses the artist was trying to capture. The image demonstrates staccato where the colors contrast more clearly.
As described from her words, the exhibition was about going against social media. She wanted to show the negatives and the process of photography and videography before it gets posted on any media platform. We usually gloss over how that image came about. Her work with fiber consists of different aspects such as fashion, photography, paintings, and videography. She started out with fiber but then wanted to experience videography, so she was able to blend those two ideas together. She wanted to represent that everything captured was done by her including the fabric she was wearing. All the preparation towards the final product is what most people don’t get to see.
My experience with the pieces was very interesting. She had the final products as photos but also had a video showing her photo-shoot process creating these images. The photos would be the pictures someone would post on social media, but the videos show how those images came to reality. The videos aren’t seen by anyone on social media unless they post it but most of the time people don’t. It made me really think about all the photos I have posted on my Instagram. I thought about the story about that image and how I took that picture. Most people won’t think about anything below the surface of the photo which is true to her exhibition. The project resonates with my life experiences because of how she made her project a reality.
